Two years ago I was with a guy that had money managing problems. He applied for a credit card and without my knowlege added me as a secondary. When the cards came in and he gave me mine I was furious. I called the credit card company to cancel my card and was told that I couldn’t do that because I wasn’t the primary card holder. I told this to my then boyfriend and told him to cancel. Later that day he said it was done.

We split up a few months later and about a year ago I applied for an apartment and was denied. Well turns out he didn’t cancel the card afterall and charged his card and never made payments. Now it’s on my credit and I think it’s $5000. The credit card company won’t even tell me the amount but I had a creditor statement in his name forwarded to my new address a few months later with that amount.

I’ve asked the guy to get me a notarized letter admitting fault which will clear my credit in a few weeks to months but he won’t. What can I do?

I did that when I called the credit card company and I also asked my es about it and he said that the application didn’t ask for a social or even a birthday. When I spoke to the credit card company they said as much. Most application and offers ask you if you want to add a seconday and won’t even ask you for any other information other than the persons name. They don’t have my social or even know how old I am. When I asked how that could be possible they just said “That’s how it works”.

Hi Experts!

I am recovering from a hit to my credit report in the form of two consecutive non-payments on a small student loan. The loan bill was sent to my parents house who are retired and have been in Europe for the past 3 months so I don’t completely blame myself. However – I just paid the payment balance last week and i’m curious about the effect it will have on my report.

So my questions are:
1)Will it take a month for the loan creditor to report the payment to the credit bureaus or is this more of an instantaneous process?
2)Now that the account dues are paid, will the loan be removed from the adverse accounts section of my report and will my score jump up at all?

I’m really interested in building up my score – this hit was a real punch in the nose for me. I guess there are always bumps in the road :(

Well thanks in advance for all of your help and I’m looking forward to reading your responses.
-CF

My account was closed by the bank due to number of credit cards I have and high balance. I will be able to close all in 6 months. Can other banks close my credit card accounts as well? What is the best way to handle it?
Thanks for the answers but my problem is:

I have one card which was closed by the bank and limit on one other were reduced. I am afraid that this will create a domino effect and all other banks will start to close my accounts. How possible is this? Another question is: how bad will the effect of a closed account by the creditor will be on my credit history?

Thanks guys for your answers

Jamie
